Hip Pain? Don’t Want Surgery?
Do you have hip pain and you don’t want surgery?
Hip pain is often caused by the muscles attached at the hip, of which there are several.
When you are experiencing hip pain, it’s important to know how many muscles there are in the hip, because there are a lot of them, so here you go: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, these are three very large and strong muscles attaching from the hip bone (Ilium) to the thigh bone (femur).
The hamstring muscles attach at the sits bone (ischial tuberosity).
The tensor fasciae latae (TFL) goes from the ilium to the iliotibial band (ITB).
The iliopsoas (il-ē-ō-ˈsō-əs) connects not only from the inside of the ilium to the spine but also to the femur.
The pectineus, I know, you were wondering when I would get to this muscle! It goes from the pubic crest or ramus to the femur, as do the adductor brevis, gracilis, & adductor longus.
The sartorius and rectus femoris attach from the ilium to the tibia and femur respectively.
Then there are the hip rotators, of which there are six; piriformis, gemellus superior, obturator internus & externus, gemellus inferior, and quadratus femoris.
So, there you have a whole lot of muscles that are pulling on the hip in any given direction, not to mention balancing and stabilizing us. There is a lot going on in our hips, so hip pain is
common–not normal–but common.
Stretches, massage, hot baths, infrared sauna, and exercise all keep these muscles doing their job as well as keep them from pulling on the joint.
